More and more people are now using Kindles, iPads and other devices to read their books. So we are rolling out a range of new and old Matthias Media titles in electronic format suitable for these devices.

At least initially, we will be working on two different formats for these ebooks: files suitable for use with Amazon's Kindle book reading device, as well as epub format files which can be read on a wide range of other book reading devices and software, including the iPhone and iPad.

You can purchase the files through our own online store, and at the bottom of this page are some videos about how to download and install the ebook files on an iPad or Kindle.

However, we also know that you may find it easier to use other online providers of ebooks (e.g. Amazon and Apple). On each ebook page in our online store, you will see a button that says "Where else to buy this ebook". If you move your mouse over that button a window will pop up with information about where else you can buy that ebook, and showing how much Matthias Media receives of your purchase price from that alternative outlet. We're not trying to make you feel guilty if you choose to buy from elsewhere - that's fine if you do. After all, it's our choice to offer our ebooks there. But we want to give you the information about where the money goes so that you can make an informed choice.

We'd also like to point out that we have an exclusive extended '2-for-1' license when you buy direct from us. See below for details.

Our restrictions on how you may use the ebook files you purchase from Matthias Media are designed to be fair, to encourage the widespread use of books in ministry, and yet to ensure that we are still able to pay our bills and reward authors for their effort.

However, if you buy the ebook file and licence direct from Matthias Media, our standard licence is extended in the following way:

As the purchaser, you may make a copy of the file to share with one other person who may use it in the same way as if they were the purchaser of the file, except that they may not share the file with anyone else (i.e. only the purchaser of the file may share it).
Once you have shared the file with a person, you may not share it again with another person without buying an additional licence, even if the first person with whom you shared it deletes the file from all of their devices.

This is a little different to the normal ebook rights you might find set out in other publishers' ebooks, and also different to the standard licence that applies to Matthias Media ebooks purchased from third parties. That's because when you buy a Matthias Media ebook direct from us, we are effectively giving you two licences for the price of one: one for you and one for someone else.

Why do we do this? Because we want to encourage you to use the book as a resource for growing Christians. We would love you to read the book, share it with someone else, and then talk about it together.

We hope this will encourage you not just to buy ebooks for yourself, but also to stop and think who else the book might help.

We expect that you will be able to think of more than one person. But if you want to share the ebook with a third person, we ask that you then buy an extra licence. That means going back to our online store and purchasing another copy. You may not need to download the file again—it is exactly the same file as the one you bought previously (unless there is a new edition)—but please go through the process of buying the file again so that we gain some additional revenue to support our ministry (cf. 1 Cor 9:7-11). If people don't do the right thing and distribute our books widely without contributing to our work, then ebooks will potentially be the death knell of our publishing ministry.

Now, if you're smart (like we think most of our customers are), you'll work out that for a third person to read the book, it actually works out better if that third person buys the book—because as the purchaser they can give a copy to a fourth person. (Whereas if you buy the second copy, you can still only give it to one other person.) So please keep that in mind where appropriate.
