The best Christian authors direct their readers right back to the Bible and
Pastor Ray Galea is no exception. In the final sentences of the
introduction to his latest book, God is Enough, Pastor Galea pleads, "Please
get out your Bible and read each Psalm twice before you read the relevant
chapter."
Following that advice, I found myself alternately nodding in joyful
agreement, praising God for his glorious and holy nature, praying for
forgiveness for my sinful actions or attitudes which had been brought to
light and praying for the Holy Spirit to renew a right spirit within me.
Especially helpful are the definitions of key words or phrases in Psalm 19,
discussed in chapter eight. The reflection questions at the end of each
chapter are thought and prayer provoking.
As I read the Psalms and then the relevant chapters, a young man, newly
converted and recently baptized in our fellowship kept coming to mind. He
will receive this first copy and I have ordered more to give to others as
well. This is one way "a reasonably solid Christian" (Marshall and Payne,
"The Trellis and The Vine" 26) can begin the vine work of "bringing a truth
from God's word to someone else, praying that God would make that word bear
fruit through the inward working of his Spirit" (39).
